Description

Learn the art of hand building with clay in this hands-on, beginner-friendly course! Led by artist Ilona Zabolotna, students will explore the foundational techniques of hand building pottery, including pinch pots, coil building, slab construction, and surface decoration. Whether you're completely new to clay or looking to refresh your skills, this course offers a relaxed, creative environment where you’ll learn to shape and form your own functional or decorative ceramic pieces.

Learn how to throw on a potter’s wheel with learned instructor Ilona Zabolotna during this course! You’ll spend time honing your skills on the potter’s wheel, learning how to trim your work, and discovering how to glaze your pieces to intentional completion. This course is perfect for those wanting an introduction to basic techniques.

Description

Come explore pottery with us! Try your hands at the pottery wheel and learn basic throwing techniques during this 2 hour introductory class. This class is great for those who have never done pottery before and want to give it a go without committing to a course just yet. All supplies, including clay and pottery tools, are included for this class. Students should not expect to produce any work to be fired or taken home; rather, students should expect to gain hands on experience and learn if pottery is for them!

Description

Join experienced local ceramic artist Mariah Johnson for a 1 day workshop! An udu drum is a Nigerian percussive instrument consisting of a clay pot with two openings originating from the Igbo people. It has been traditionally used for ceremonial music and is known for its deep, earthy tones. In this workshop, students will create their own udu drum! Students will become familiar with clay’s degrees of plasticity and how to effectively use tools and techniques to bring their vision to life through manipulation of this medium and embellishment. This hands-on, beginner friendly workshop welcomes those who have no experience with clay as well as those who want to continue developing their skills and learn more about surface treatments. Clay, studio glazes, and kiln firings are included. Students will need basic pottery tools and may bring their own or purchase a Potter’s Tool Kit at the studio for $15. Please wear secure footwear-- no open-toed shoes!
