Description
Learn the art of hand building with clay in this hands-on, beginner-friendly course! Led by artist Ilona Zabolotna, students will explore the foundational techniques of hand building pottery, including pinch pots, coil building, slab construction, and surface decoration. Whether you're completely new to clay or looking to refresh your skills, this course offers a relaxed, creative environment where you’ll learn to shape and form your own functional or decorative ceramic pieces.

Description
Come explore pottery with us! Try your hands at the pottery wheel and learn basic throwing techniques during this 2 hour introductory class. This class is great for those who have never done pottery before and want to give it a go without committing to a course just yet. All supplies, including clay and pottery tools, are included for this class. Students should not expect to produce any work to be fired or taken home; rather, students should expect to gain hands on experience and learn if pottery is for them!

Description
Join experienced local ceramist Mariah Johnson for a 1 day hands-on workshop during which students will create their own udu drum! An udu drum is a Nigerian skinless clay pot drum originating from the Igbo people traditionally used for ceremonial music and popular for the deep, earthy tones it creates. Students will make a sphere-shaped drum with a side hole, neck, and add decorative elements after being introduced to the studio. Students will also become familiar with the varying levels of the plasticity of clay and experience the different feels of clay during drying process. Students will learn about the stages of drying and associated clay stability and learn how to apply this knowledge to create their own unique vessels with embellishments such as carving and stamping. Various tools and treatments will be explored during this workshop. It is beginner-friendly and also welcomes returning ceramic students to further develop their skills with surface treatments. As an artist, Mariah concentrates on creating lively and functional pieces via hands-on observation, technical exploration, and personal expression.
