JOAN LORD

1940 - 2017

"The face of a child, a sparkling brook, a lustrous piece of brass; one of these may be your source of inspiration. In order to express your reaction to these things in a pictorial way, you must learn the tools of the craft and the fundamentals of the art."

The quote by late Joan Lord reveals one of the many roles she played-- that of a teacher.  Lord had decades of study and productive experience in the arts and received formal education at Boston School of Art, The Art Students League, SUNY at Albany, and the Uffizi in Italy. She studied extensively with Helen Van Wyk of Rockport, MA, and the two became great friends. Lord’s own style & manner of teaching & painting was, indeed, influenced by this relationship. As a teacher, Lord taught innumerous growing artists as an international PBS instructor, educator at Union College, and served as a demonstrator and lecturer at many art organizations and art schools. During her later years the painter continued sharing her expertise with local art students out of her home. Lord also was founder and member of several local and out of state art groups in addition to serving as an art and photography juror at the international level. Throughout her years as an artist, Lord received numerous awards and had her work displayed in art galleries, her personal studio, and private collections across the U.S. and in Europe. Lord’s artistic style is comfortably recognizable and her work certainly reflects a life spent dedicated to the arts. Her paintings continue to be sought after by private collectors.

In addition to her roles as a teacher and artist, Lord was a mother, grandmother, aunt, and mentor. While her presence is missed by so many, her legacy lives on through her artwork.

The Blooming Artist is honored to be the exclusive representative of the works of Joan Lord.
