Julian Schaevitz
NY, NY
Julian Schaevitz is a self-taught artist, best known for his signature cartoon style, applied across handdrawn, digital and acrylic mediums. Julian calls himself a "cartoonist by night" and describes his aesthetic as, "surrealist cartoons". As a transgender man, Julian values creating surrealist works of art to explore the impossible as connected to and in conversation with his own identity. With many autobiographical subject matters, heavily inspired by one of his favorite artists, Frida Kahlo, Julian creates his pieces as a means of self-discovery and reflection. Julian's greatest artistic inspirations are Frida Kahlo, Marc Chagall, MC Escher, Hieronymus Bosch, Keith Haring, and Dr. Seuss. Julian’s works invite his viewers to see the world through his eyes, through which imagination has always been a key lens to help him realize his authentic self.
